It's official - on both sides of the Atlantic

Nuevas Esperanzas has passed two important milestones in the last couple of months, on different sides of the Atlantic.  In September we gained our official status as a UK registered charity (no. 1116109) from the Charity Commission.  A few weeks later after a lot of translation, legal work and visits to government offices in Managua we were also registered as an international NGO in Nicaragua.

So what does this mean?  On the British side of the Atlantic this means we can process Gift Aid donations and open up new possibilities for funding.  In Nicaragua, some of the most important options now available to us are opening a bank account, signing contracts and applying for tax relief for our project expenses.

We have another reason to celebrate too – on 1^st November we celebrated Nuevas Esperanzas’ first birthday with a party for the team.  It has been a great first year and we are excited about all the projects and plans that lie ahead.
