Welcome to Nuevas Esperanzas!  We are a young and professional organisation serving poor communities in Nicaragua through projects which provide practical and technical assistance in support of long-term sustainable development.

We work in a number of sectors including water, the environment, livelihoods and education following a model of holistic, transformational development which addresses material and spiritual needs in a culturally appropriate manner. We aim to integrate innovation and technical excellence with good practice in development, always mindful of the complex web of economic, environmental, social and spiritual issues which conspire against those living in poverty.

Bienvenido Luis

We are pleased to welcome Luis Espinales to our team. Luis, a builder from Somotillo in the north of Nicaragua, learnt how to build rainwater harvesting tanks when he participated in our projects in his community two years ago. He has joined the team to help with the construction of 15 rainwater harvesting tanks in the remote hillside communities on the slopes of Volcán Telica.

Trucks, tractors, cement mixers and a lot of hard work

In January work began to improve the steep track between the communities of Las Quemadas and El Ñajo. The 3km of dirt road becomes impassable even on horseback during the wet season and improving access was one of the top priorities for the families in El Ñajo when the Nuevas Esperanzas team first met with them a couple of years ago. This year, thanks to funding from the M Night Shyamalan Foundation and the commitment of the community and  Nuevas Esperanzas things are going to be different.  Click here to read more.
